Volunteer Opportunities


Reading to End Racism is a program where people read books to children and facilitate a conversation about racism.   

They are looking for volunteers. There is a mandatory training. BOTH the training and the reading will count towards community service.    Here are the details:  

The training is Saturday, Feb 29, 10:00 a.m. to noon, at the Unitarian/Universalist Church in Barre.  Interested students can get in touch with Ellen Halperin either by email ( or phone:  454-1960.


On Tuesday March 3rd we are looking for students to hand out post cards to voters leaving the Barre Auditorium.  Students can sign up for shifts from 7am-7pm with Margo Austin.  Stop by Room 208 or email Ms Austin at 


Open Gym basketball during February vacation.  AUD will be open Monday – Thursday (maybe Friday) from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Collect the $2 per attendee fee and make sure everyone is playing well. 

Stick & Puck – February vacation –times TBA afternoon – person is there to collect the fee.  The volunteer would not need to be a skater.

The animals and kids need you!

Spring Kids Camp on April 20-24 this year. We are looking for Teen Counselors to sign up for this as soon as possible!

Our regular summer camp weeks will be July 13-17 and July 20-24. We need four volunteer Kids Camp Counselors for each week of camp. Every session will have the same content. Please feel free to sign up for more than one session!

2020 Dates: April 20-24, July 13-17, and July 20-24

Camp Hours: 9 AM to 3 PM. Counselors’ Hours: 8:45 AM to 3:15 PM. Camper ages: 8-12 yrs.

Join other SHS students over February break and beautify Spaulding High School.  Students will be putting up inspirational quotes throughout the hallways of Spaulding.  Interested students should go see Ms Austin in Room 208 or email her at


Help out at the Vermont Food Bank!  Sort food and help out your community!

Students who would like to volunteer can fill out an application at the following link: If students could please indicate on the application that they are interested in volunteering as part of Spaulding’s volunteer initiative, that would be great.  Students 16 and above do not need to volunteer with an adult chaperone; students who are 14 and 15 do need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone (5 students per 1 chaperone). If students would like to sign up for a Sort-a-Thon event, they should fill out the application at least a week before the event so I have time to review the application and collect the permission slip.


The Elks Club in Barre provides dinners once a month for seniors and they would love your help!  Serve, help clean up and socialize with the guests.  Arrive at 5pm and be done at 7pm.  Please contact Barb Watters at or (802) 558-8692 or the Elks Club number (802) 479-9522
