The 2018 Spaulding Football season was exciting for the players, students, and community. We started out in May with Step Up night when we begin promoting the season to former, current and future players.
Players work out in the weight room all year round. August began the season with practices. Players participated in two 7v7 tournaments this year – one in VT and one in NH. The season was amazing and ended with a 3 – 6 record. We made it to the playoffs for the first time in 10 years!
The year culminated with the annual award ceremony, where players received acknowledgement for a fantastic season. It was a fantastic year and we look forward to 2019!
This year we had a record number of players receive statewide accolades for their football talents. We had 2 first team Division II All Stars and 2 second team. We had a statewide Burlington Free Press Athlete of the Week. We also had 3 players make the North/South Senior Bowl along with 3 coaches!
This was the 1st year of our Rising Tide leadership program. Community leaders spoke to the teams about leadership. As part of this program, players volunteered to read to children at a local bookstore and gave the children trading cards offering free game tickets if they collected them all. Players also hosted appreciation events for emergency services, school boards, select board, and city council giving them a swag bag with a warm invitation to attend the games.
Our booster club supports us in many ways. They supply away snacks and meals for all away games for JV and Varsity. This year they served a dinner to all players before the Homecoming game and breakfast before Saturday games. Among other fundraisers they held a Paint-n-sip and a Quarter Auction.
